Lavender

For a moment I run my hand through the lavender. The scent is so familiar to me. An ultimate summer feeling overwhelms me. When I close my eyes half, the many lavender flowers in the flower beds of my garden bring out a purple glow that gently sways in the soft breeze. The warmth of the sun feels pleasant. Softly buzzing bees fly above the small flowers to see if there is something they like. I cannot resist the desire to sit down with my camera beside one of the lavender flower beds.

I soon discover that some (bumble)bees visit the row lavender plants from back to front and others do just the opposite. Systematically and quickly they drink -even flying- the nectar from the flowers. It demands the utmost of me as a photographer to take sharp images of them. Watching these busy creatures I wonder how they know so soon that they already have visited a flower, because they are so clever to skip that flower quickly. Moments later butterflies and flies land also on the purple carpet of flowers. Diligently they look for food. After a few hours I call it a day. Tireless the bees continue their job and from the terrace I hear their buzz until late in the evening.

Lavender (Lavendula)
It's difficult to find the names of all species of the bees

Green-veined White (Pieris napi)

True flies are insects of the order Diptera

  2. Hello Joke:) I can almost smell the lavender in your superb captures of all the insects that visit these beautiful and fragrant flowers. Wish I could help in identifying the bees, but I also have the same difficulty:=)
